Halloween Safety Tips

Kids should never be the only ones who should be following Halloween safety tips. We want not only your children to stay safe on the spookiest day of the year, but you and your home as well. We believe the three things to be aware about this holiday are the jack-o-lanterns, costumes, and trick-or-treating.

Jack-O-Lanterns

  • If you are planning to leave your jack-o-lanterns unattended or on all night, it is best to use battery-operated candles, flashlights or glow sticks.
  • If you do decide to use candles in your pumpkins, make sure you display them away from flammable objects.
  • Do not let small children handle knives or any sharp carving tools.

Costumes

  • It is best to not wear a costume that may drag on the ground and cause you or your children to slip.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes even if it may not match with your costume if you are planning to walk around all night.
  • If your costume includes a mask, make sure it isn’t limiting your eyesight.
  • Depending on where you live, it may get cold as the night goes on. You should always bring a jacket along with you or wear extra layers underneath.

Trick-Or-Treating

  • Carry a flashlight or put glow sticks or reflective tape inside the candy bag for visibility.
  • Only trick-or-treat on well-lit streets and houses.
  • Always stay on the sidewalks.
  • You should never go trick-or-treating alone or be left alone.
